Introducing the Kentucky Black Trailblazers Experience
Six Kentucky tourism agencies have partnered to launch the Kentucky Black Trailblazers Experience. This immersive journey celebrates influential Black figures who shaped Kentucky's history. Funded by a federal ARPA grant, the project includes contributions from ShelbyKY, Louisville, Oldham County, Bardstown, Elizabethtown, and Shepherdsville-Bullitt County tourism agencies.
The project, developed by ShelbyKY Tourism President & CEO Janette Marson, uses Augmented Reality (AR) to enable visitors to explore historical figures' personal histories. It features 19 stops, showcasing stories of notable individuals like Muhammad Ali and Civil Rights Leader Whitney M. Young, Jr. The experience is activated by scanning QR codes at designated locations, at no cost.
Innovation studio Tactic created the AR technology for this project. According to Tactic President Peter Oberdorfer, the use of augmented and mixed reality combined with live-action holographic video provides an engaging way for users to experience history.
