Iris Indie International Announces Cannes Screening of "Sloane: A Jazz Singer"
Iris Indie International is set to host an exclusive screening of the award-winning documentary "Sloane: A Jazz Singer" at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2024. The film, directed by Michael Lippert, has garnered numerous accolades at international film festivals and explores the life of Carol Sloane, a legendary jazz vocalist.
"Sloane: A Jazz Singer" traces the highs and lows of Sloane's career from her explosive debut at the 1961 Newport Jazz Festival to her final live recording at Manhattan's Birdland before her passing. The documentary also delves into Sloane’s personal struggles, despite her profound impact on the jazz genre and her collaborations with major artists like Ella Fitzgerald and Oscar Peterson.
Producer Stephen Barefoot, who had a long-standing friendship with Sloane, initiated the documentary to ensure her legacy prevails. The Cannes event will also feature an intimate gathering post-screening to honor Sloane's contributions to music, attended by key figures from the documentary including Barefoot and co-producer J. Taylor Arnold.
The screening marks Iris Indie International's first participation at Cannes, with Milena Rimassa, President of Distribution, expressing enthusiasm for presenting Sloane’s story to an international audience and celebrating jazz’s enduring influence at such a prestigious venue.
