Irish roads safer thanks to connected vehicles

The NIMS initiative in Ireland has launched a pilot project using C-ITS technology, with 1,500 users testing the system to improve road safety since January 2024. Integrated with the NIMS traffic management system, this solution provides information in real-time to drivers on the M50 and M1 motorways in Dublin.

This innovation allows the exchange of information between vehicles, infrastructure and supervision centers, providing direct notifications on road conditions. Kapsch TrafficCom Vice President EMENA, Carolin Treichl, highlights the aim of revolutionizing the management of the Irish motorway network with this technology which improves communication and road safety.

Minister of State for Road Safety, Jack Chambers, recognizes the importance of this technology enabling motorists to make informed decisions, thereby preventing accidents and contributing to the safety of all road users. This project is a collaboration between Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and the Irish Government.
