Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Chooses GA-ASI SeaGuardians
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) has opted for SeaGuardian® Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) for its Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle initiative. This decision comes after employing SeaGuardian since May 2023 in its Medium-Altitude, Long Endurance RPA System Trial Operations Project.
SeaGuardian has demonstrated capabilities in potentially replacing some missions typically handled by manned aircraft. It can operate for 24 hours or more, adapting to mission requirements. The system's features include advanced surveillance technologies, enabling effective maritime monitoring and identification of targets over extensive areas.
GA-ASI has enhanced its surveillance capabilities for Japan through the Optix+ system, which integrates sensor data and other inputs to deliver comprehensive situational awareness. This supports real-time intelligence and improves the JMSDF's operational scope.
