Key Developments at West Africa Energy Cooperation Summit

The West Africa Energy Cooperation Summit (WA-ECS) in Lomé, Togo, held from December 3-5, marked a significant step forward for sustainable energy initiatives in the ECOWAS region. Representatives from governments and the energy sector convened to discuss and address challenges in project development.

Kwawu Mensan Gaba of the World Bank Group announced a strong commitment to mobilize over $5 billion for West African energy projects since 2020, aiming for universal electricity access through the Mission 300 initiative.

As part of the summit outcomes, Togo signed two memorandums with HAIER and RELP. These agreements aim to enhance Togo's renewable energy capacity and support universal access to electricity. The summit showcased Togo's role as a regional energy hub under Prime Minister Victoire Tomegah Dogbé.
