Komax Group Advances Automation in Collaboration with Audi

The Komax Group has concluded its role in the groundbreaking Next2OEM project, aimed at maximizing automation in wire harness manufacturing. Partnered with Audi, the project's results were presented at a media event in Ingolstadt. The initiative, supported by the German Federal Ministry and the EU, focused on integrating automation across the entire production chain, from wire development to car assembly.

The project developed an automated process for a wire harness used in an Audi vehicle's center console. Key technologies from Komax were utilized, including the Zeta 640 and Omega 850 machines, ultrasonic welding, and a robot cell for advanced assembly. This setup demonstrates significant benefits such as reduced logistics, fewer errors, and enhanced supply chain resilience.

Komax's three-year involvement highlighted the potential of automation to maintain material costs while boosting vertical integration. The project's completion marks a significant advancement in automotive manufacturing.
