Kontron Secures EUR 34 Million GSM-R System Project in Czech Republic
Kontron Transportation, within the Kontron group, has recently won a significant contract associated with the Czech Republic's railways. This EUR 34 million deal involves the development of a Global System for Mobile Communication-Railways (GSM-R) system, marking a progressive step for the Czech rail infrastructure. The project envisions extending the existing GSM-R network, particularly between Hranice city and the Slovak Republic border.
Set to start in March 2024, this comprehensive 3-year turnkey project aims to enhance daily railway operations through advanced voice and data services. It notably supports the future application of the European Train Control System (ETCS) level 2. With several technical tasks, including the installation of 29 base transceiver stations, the project banks on collaboration with skilled subcontractors.
Petr Vitek, CEO of the Kontron Transportation subsidiary in Praha, expressed enthusiasm for strengthening rail transport modernization in the Czech Republic. Emphasizing safety, passenger comfort, and efficiency, Vitek detailed the project's scope from site preparation to final testing. Kontron's history with Správa železnic, the state railway administration, underscores a continuing partnership aimed at rail network improvements.
