Holcim Initiates OLYMPUS Project in Greece for Near-Zero Cement Production
Holcim has officially launched its OLYMPUS project in Milaki, Greece, aiming to produce 2 million tons of near-zero cement annually by 2029. The project involves an investment of EUR 400 million and aligns with Europe's Clean Industrial Deal. It was inaugurated with the attendance of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The initiative is bolstered by a grant from the EU Innovation Fund and is expected to generate over 1,000 construction jobs and 100 operational positions. Holcim CEO Miljan Gutovic emphasized the project's role in their broader strategy to produce 8 million tons of near-zero cement across Europe by 2030.
OLYMPUS will implement OxyCalciner and Cryocap™ FG technologies for efficient carbon capture. The project receives support from Air Liquide and EUR 125 million from EU Innovation Fund revenues.
