Latest Report Explores the Manufacturing CEO Journey

The business complexities that today's manufacturing leaders face challenge previous generations of leaders and have led to an evolution in the role of manufacturing CEOs. A report by Manufacturers Alliance Foundation and Egon Zehnder highlights this shift. "The Evolution of the Manufacturing CEO: The Journey to Gain Capacity to Manage Complexity" finds that CEOs are adapting by improving in self-awareness, relatability, and adaptability.

Based on a survey of nearly 50 manufacturing CEOs, the study explores their path to becoming chief executives, their preparedness, and the evolution of their leadership. 75% of CEOs felt they could have been better prepared for their roles. The study stresses the need for ongoing CEO development and a pipeline of "ready-now" candidates.

New CEOs rely on board chairs for feedback, while experienced ones look to their internal leadership teams. Matthias Bolling of Egon Zehnder noted that modern CEOs are more self-reflective, authentic, and empathetic, helping them succeed in a complex environment.
