Leaders in Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Honored by ASTCT
The American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy® (ASTCT) presented its most prestigious awards during the Tandem Meetings in San Antonio, Texas, from February 21st to 24th. These awards recognize outstanding contributions in the field of transplantation and cellular therapy.
Dr. Gerard Socie was awarded the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award by ASTCT. This distinguished researcher, known for his work on graft-versus-host disease, has also studied aplastic anemia and its post-treatment malignancies. Previously president of the French Society of Hematology and the National Academic Council in Hematology, he currently serves as the head of the scientific committee at the National Cancer Institute in France.
Robin Roberts was honored with the 2024 Public Service Award by ASTCT for her advocacy for blood stem cell donation, following her own transplant to treat myelodysplastic syndrome. Leveraging her celebrity status, she has encouraged thousands to join the NMDP registry, resulting in over 140 potential donors.
Dr. John F. DiPersio had the privilege of delivering the 2024 E. Donnall Thomas Lecture, sharing advances in the field of transplantation and cellular therapy, including his work on plerixafor, a mobilizing agent for stem cell transplantation.
