Lenzing Leads Sustainable Textile Revolution with CELLFIL Project

Lenzing AG, a major supplier of regenerated cellulose fibers, has partnered with RTDS Group and 13 other industry and research entities to launch the EU-funded CELLFIL project. With a EUR 6.9 million investment, this initiative aims to transform the textile value chain towards sustainability and circular economy principles.

As part of Horizon Europe, CELLFIL seeks to replace synthetic fibers with bio-based lyocell filaments. This collaboration will optimize the production process to support environmentally friendly and recyclable textile applications. The project marks a step towards the broad adoption of lyocell filaments, promoting a greener industry standard.

Markus Pichler, Head of Lyocell Filament Development at Lenzing, highlighted the importance of addressing supply chain availability and technological adjustments. Stephen Webb, CEO of RTDS Group, emphasized their commitment to advancing sustainable innovations in the textile sector.
