Moolec Confirms US Harvest and Promising Yields for Plant-Grown Products GLASO™ and Piggy Sooy™ in October
Moolec Science SA (NASDAQ:MLEC), a company specializing in science-based food ingredients, announced the successful harvest of its genetically engineered plant products GLASO™ and Piggy Sooy™ in the US for October 2024.
The GLASO™ campaign in Idaho involves 600 acres of genetically modified safflower. Moolec expects to produce 300 to 400 tons of safflower seeds rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). They have secured an offtake agreement with a major global consumer packaged goods (CPG) company targeting the US market in 2025.
Piggy Sooy™ trials are conducted in Ohio, Missouri, and Iowa. The trials aim at product development, seed increase, and gathering regulatory data for FDA approval. Recent USDA-APHIS approval marks a significant milestone for Moolec, enabling the first US cultivation of animal proteins in food crops.
CTO Martín Salinas highlighted the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability in agriculture and biotechnology, noting that Piggy Sooy™ could produce pork protein equivalent to 10 pigs per acre.
