National Anti-Vivisection Society Highlights Animal Care Violations in U.S. Labs

The National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) has released its first "Laboratory Animal Care Audit," revealing numerous violations of animal care standards in U.S. research labs. This 2023 audit, available on the NAVS website, documents compliance issues across facilities inspected by the USDA.

The audit examines 90 facilities, reporting violations in 34 states. California had the most serious violations, with issues like improper animal handling, inadequate veterinary care, and poor housing conditions leading to several animal deaths. These findings are drawn from USDA records and laboratory reports.

Each facility's violations from 2023 are documented, highlighting ongoing animal welfare issues even in monitored settings. NAVS aims for greater public and policymaker awareness of these conditions.
