NATO Support and Procurement Agency Contracts SES’s O3b mPOWER for Secure Communications Services
The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has awarded SES a contract to deliver secure high-performance low-latency satellite services via its medium earth orbit (MEO) constellation. This initiative will enable global missions for NATO member governments, agencies, and the military.
The contract, valued at USD 200M, spans three years with two additional one-year options. It marks the first award under the Global Commercially Contracted Satellite Communications Support Partnership (GCC SATCOM SP) established by the U.S. and Luxembourg under NSPA in 2022, signifying a new era of space cooperation within NATO.
The MEO Global Services (MGS) will be available to all NATO countries and can support missions on SES’s global commercial managed services network and forthcoming national sovereign networks. The O3b mPOWER system, used for MGS, features extensive global ground infrastructure and open architecture, providing secure communications and networking solutions for tactical units.
Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg’s Minister of Defence, emphasized Luxembourg's role in leveraging satcom expertise for NATO's benefit, aligning with the Luxembourg Defence Space Strategy. NSPA General Manager Stacy Cummings highlighted the strategic importance of this collaboration in advancing global defence and security.
SES CEO Adel Al-Saleh expressed pride in delivering this new service to governments, ensuring performance, reliability, security, and control from day one.
