Neoen Launches Collie Battery Stage 1 in Western Australia
Neoen's Collie Battery Stage 1 has started operations in Western Australia, delivering grid reliability services ahead of schedule. The 219 MW / 877 MWh facility is the largest battery in the region, constructed in under 18 months. Its collaboration with Tesla, UGL, and Western Power ensured timely completion, and since October 1st, it has been supporting the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) to mitigate risks from retiring coal plants and rising rooftop solar usage.
As Neoen's first long-duration battery project in Western Australia, the battery discharges 197 MW for four hours, supplying crucial energy during peak evening demand. The follow-up, Collie Battery Stage 2, is under construction, promising expanded grid support by late 2025.
Neoen emphasizes its role in Western Australia's energy transition, aiming to harness renewable energy with projects totaling over 2 GW in development. The state's energy strategy focuses on a blend of solar, wind, and large-scale storage.
