Newman’s Own Foundation Announces the Recipients of the Inaugural Food Justice for Kids Prize

Newman's Own Foundation will award up to $1.2 million to 12 nonprofits and tribes dedicated to advancing Indigenous food justice, nutrition education, and school food programs for children in the U.S. The foundation, created by actor Paul Newman, selected these recipients based on their work to improve children's access to nutritious and culturally relevant foods.

"Nearly 1 in 5 children in the U.S. face food insecurity, and Native communities often experience higher levels," said Alex Amouyel, President and CEO of Newman's Own Foundation. The initiative attracted close to 500 applications, with the selection process involving a diverse group of reviewers to ensure transparency.

Originally planning to fund 10 organizations, the foundation increased its commitment to 12 due to the quality of the applicants. Each recipient will receive $50,000 in 2024 and could receive an additional $50,000 in 2025. The recipients include six grants for Indigenous food justice and six for nutrition education and school food programs.
