Nexans Completes Expansion of Subsea Cable Plant in Norway

Nexans has officially inaugurated the expanded section of its high voltage subsea cable plant in Halden, Norway. The expansion addresses the global increase in demand for electrification and the energy transition.

The investment has created over 100 jobs and the plant can now deliver 525kV HVDC and 420kV HVAC subsea cables. Advanced production technology is featured, including a 152.89 meter extrusion tower—the tallest building in Norway—which enables the insulation of up to four cables simultaneously.

The Halden plant, celebrating its 50th anniversary, has been pivotal in Nexans' history and will continue to contribute to significant projects like the frame agreement with TenneT. The expanded facility more than doubles its capacity for HVDC extruded cables.

This expansion supports offshore wind farms and other critical energy projects, aiming to connect renewable energy sources to high-demand areas. The new facility also boosts local employment and strengthens the supply chain within Europe and globally, increasing the plant's staff to around 1,000 employees.
