Northern Data Group Expands Mining Operations with Renewable Energy in Paraguay
Northern Data Group, through its division Peak Mining, has established a new partnership with Penguin Infrastructure Holdings to set up 28MW of Bitcoin mining operations in Paraguay. This project, utilizing 2,860 units of liquid-cooled WhatsMiners from MicroBT's M63-series, is set to begin operations in the second half of 2024. The mining effort will contribute 1.3 EH/s towards Peak Mining’s goal of achieving 7.9 EH/s within the year.
The facility is strategically placed to fully leverage the renewable hydropower from the 14 GW Itaipu Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric dams globally. This move marks Peak Mining’s first foray into South America and underscores an emerging trend of integrating high-performance computing (HPC) with eco-friendly practices. Additionally, the partnership emphasizes sustainable development within the cryptocurrency sector by relying entirely on renewable energy.
This collaboration aligns with Northern Data Group’s broader strategy of global expansion and sustainable innovation in the field of high-performance computing. The initiative also coincides with current developments, such as their acquisition of a 300MW site in Texas and construction of a 30MW facility in North Dakota. Northern Data Group continues to focus on providing cutting-edge HPC solutions responsibly as they progress in 2024.
