OSMOSUN reaches 10 million m3 of fresh water in Djibouti
OSMOSUN, a company specializing in solar energy desalination, and its partner IWS have produced 10 million m3 of fresh water thanks to their unit located near Lake Goubet in Djibouti. This project is part of a context where Djibouti, an arid country, suffers from a fresh water deficit. The OSMOSUN 7 SW autonomous desalination unit, powered by a 40kWc photovoltaic plant, operates without batteries and has avoided the emission of 45 tons of CO2 per year.
This facility, since its commissioning in the summer of 2023, has been providing drinking water to more than a thousand people thanks to an intelligent system that optimizes distribution. The project, funded over 20 years by IWS, provides free water to local communities and has created 17 jobs.
Building on this success, OSMOSUN and IWS aim to deploy similar projects across sub-Saharan Africa, thus continuing their commitment to sustainable access to drinking water.
