Plantd and D.R. Horton Collaborate on Carbon-Negative Building Panels
Plantd has signed a multi-year contract with D.R. Horton, the leading U.S. homebuilder, to supply 10 million carbon-negative structural panels. Made from fast-growing perennial grass, these panels are set to enhance the sustainability of the homebuilding industry.
This partnership marks a key step for Plantd in reducing the construction sector's carbon footprint. The panels will sequester approximately 165,000 metric tons of CO2, supporting the construction of around 90,000 homes and saving about 1.2 million trees. Despite their environmental benefits, the panels outperform traditional wood in moisture and fire resistance.
These innovative panels aim to diversify D.R. Horton's supply chain, reducing dependency on traditional lumber and stabilizing material costs. This could lead to more predictable home prices, regardless of fluctuations in the lumber market.
