Procivis: First Live Implementation of Digital Credentials in Switzerland by the City of Zug

Zurich, 17 September 2024 – The city of Zug has become the first authority in Switzerland to issue digital credentials in a productive environment. Zug is ahead in implementing digital credentials, which are planned for a federal rollout by 2026. The eZug eGovernment platform now integrates Procivis One for securely issuing, managing, and verifying digital credentials. This solution allows users to benefit from verifiable digital credentials without installing an additional app. The system ensures interoperability with the federal identity wallet planned for 2026.

The city of Zug's first use case involves issuing a digital employee certificate to over 500 teachers. Presented via the eZug-App, this certificate allows discounts at selected stationery stores, replacing the physical card and annual stickers. This efficient system can easily be integrated into sales processes. Further use cases, such as digital permits for market stalls, are being evaluated to improve procedures for both the city and market operators.

"The city of Zug can use this solution to make administrative processes more efficient while ensuring compliance with legal requirements," stated Nicolas Lemaitre, Project Lead for Smart City at the city of Zug. Procivis Co-CEO Désirée Heutschi added, "We are proud to work with the city of Zug to integrate our flexible software solution, Procivis One, for decentralized digital identities and credentials."
