Progression of alternatively powered utility vehicles in Switzerland
The new commercial vehicle sector in Switzerland shows continued growth from January to April 2024. New registrations increased by 12.4%, reaching 14,774 units. Notably, vehicles with alternative propulsion systems are gaining ground, with around one in ten new trucks now equipped with an electric or gas engine.
This trend is more marked among heavy goods vehicles where 14.4% growth was recorded with 1,607 new registrations. Of these, 20 are gas and 133 electric, or 8.3% of this category. Electric adoption continues to rise, driven by growing business demand for zero-emission logistics and the need for a more developed charging network.
Light utility vehicles, including delivery cars, also saw a significant increase of 15% with 10,634 new registrations. The figure for electric vehicles in this category, however, fell slightly to 6.2%. At the same time, the passenger vehicle segment recorded a modest increase of 2.1%.
