Q-Pixel Inc. Achieves Global Milestone with 6800 PPI Micro-LED Color Display
Q-Pixel Inc., a Los Angeles-based startup specializing in micro-LED technology, has set a new global record by developing the world's highest resolution active-matrix color display. The display features an unparalleled density of 6800 pixels per inch (PPI) in a screen size approximately 1.1 cm by 0.6 cm, making it smaller than a fingernail but with superior resolution compared to industry leaders like Apple Vision Pro.
This groundbreaking technology is underpinned by the use of advanced III-V compound microLED pixels, which offer numerous advantages over the more common micro-organic LEDs (OLEDs), including enhanced brightness, faster response times, and greater energy efficiency. Q-Pixel's unique approach utilizes tunable polychromatic LED (TP-LED) pixels, capable of emitting light across the entire color spectrum without requiring traditional RGB subpixels or other complex methodologies.
The display's record-setting resolution was achieved by overcoming significant challenges in the manufacturing process, highlighting Q-Pixel's innovation in the field of display technology. The company's advancements demonstrate the commercial viability of microLED technology for ultra high-resolution displays, marking a significant leap over existing OLED technologies.
Q-Pixel plans to showcase their pioneering display technology at the upcoming SID Display Week and will be featured in Compound Semiconductors magazine. This achievement underscores Q-Pixel's position as a leader in the development of cutting-edge display technologies.
