Alisher Usmanov Wins Hamburg Court Case Over Sanctions Allegations
The Hamburg Regional Court ruled in favor of Alisher Usmanov, addressing accusations made by a German individual on Facebook. These claims suggested Usmanov used his sister, Saodat Narzieva, to conceal assets in Swiss bank accounts. Such allegations contributed to EU and UK sanctions against Narzieva in 2022.
Narzieva's inclusion in sanctions lists stemmed from reports by The Guardian and OCCRP. These outlets alleged transfers of significant assets to her, linked to 27 Swiss accounts. Usmanov's representatives denied these claims, later retracted or corrected by some media. The EU removed her from its sanctions list in September 2022, recognizing the measures were based on incorrect information. UK sanctions remain.
In 2025, a Facebook post reiterated similar claims, leading Usmanov to sue. The court deemed the statement unlawful, mandating its removal. Non-compliance with the injunction could result in fines or detention.
