Regina Transit Partners with Cubic to Introduce Advanced Fare Collection System

Regina Transit has embarked on a transformative journey in upgrading its fare collection system through a new partnership with Cubic Transportation Systems, a branch of Cubic Corporation. This collaboration introduces the account-based Umo Platform in Canada, aiming to provide a leap in convenience for transit users with features like account-based ticketing and contactless payment options. Selected for its proven track record, including deployments in major Canadian cities, Cubic's system promises to revolutionize the transit experience in Regina with its anticipated launch in late summer 2024.

The new system allows Regina Transit passengers more flexibility in fare payment methods, including a smartphone app, the use of debit and credit cards directly on buses, or a reloadable smartcard. This marks a significant upgrade from the existing R-Card system and is expected to enhance the overall travel experience dramatically. Highlighting the benefits, Nathan Luhning, Regina Transit's acting director, emphasized the system's potential to improve transportation infrastructure and community well-being.

Key features of the Umo Platform, such as open payments and fare capping, are set to promote transit equity and convenience. These features offer riders various payment options and cap travel costs to encourage more frequent use of the transit system without worrying about trip limits. Matt Newsome from Cubic expressed enthusiasm for supporting Regina's transit journey through the adaptable and fair Umo platform, anticipating a positive impact on transit access in western Canada.
