San Diego-Based Shoreline Recovery Center Provides Addiction Awareness, Mental Health Resources Through Community Education

"The number one thing we can do as a society is continue to reduce the stigma around addiction and mental health issues," said Shoreline therapist Max Kubota. Youth introduction to substances poses higher addiction risks due to their developing brains. "Drug use at a young age is particularly dangerous," Kubota added. Shoreline Recovery Center collaborates with local organizations like NAMI and San Diego Food Bank to promote awareness through walks, presentations, and social gatherings.

"We often focus on awareness through program showcasing, education and resource sharing," Kubota noted. Most clients at Shoreline have dual diagnoses, and understanding their situations is crucial for recovery. Shoreline employs varied approaches to enhance mental wellness, including group and individual therapy sessions, educating clients and families about addiction and its link to mental health.

Weekly group counseling allows clients to share prevention stories, fostering connection and healing. "Exposure to trauma is a significant contributor to addiction and mental health issues," Kubota said. Shoreline's trauma-informed care addresses these links, supporting clients on their path to recovery.
