Sandra Day O’Connor Institute and NASS Discuss November Election Preparation
The Sandra Day O'Connor Institute for American Democracy partnered with the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) to host a virtual discussion about the upcoming general election on November 5, 2024. The webcast, titled "How are Secretaries of State Preparing for the November Election?", is available on the Institute's website, YouTube channel, and podcast platforms.
NASS President Steve Simon and President-elect Michael Watson, along with Executive Director Leslie Reynolds, discussed bipartisan election administration topics. These included election security, voter registration, poll worker recruitment, and the impact of evolving technology, particularly artificial intelligence, on elections.
Simon emphasized the importance of seeking trusted sources for election information, warning against relying solely on social media or candidates' statements. NASS created CanIVote.org to provide voters with accurate state-specific election information.
Recruiting poll workers was highlighted as crucial for the election. Reynolds stressed the importance of training the next generation of poll workers. The accuracy of election results remains a key focus, with officials ensuring that all eligible votes are counted.
The Sandra Day O'Connor Institute has also launched a Citizen's Guide to the General Election, providing information on election deadlines, voter registration, and candidate details.
