SBF AG Reflects on Financial Struggles of 2023 and Plans for Recovery

SBF AG, amidst challenges in 2023, managed to meet its revenue forecast of EUR 34.0 million, though its adjusted EBITDA fell short of expectations due to numerous economic pressures and increased expenses. The year was marked by significant costs but also strategic initiatives aimed at long-term gains. Management is optimistic, projecting substantial revenue growth for 2024 within the range of EUR 48 to 50 million.

The company's Rolling Stock segment faced decreased revenue, dropping to EUR 19.0 million from EUR 21.0 million in 2022, with high costs for new project launches which are expected to improve earnings in subsequent years. Conversely, the Public and Industrial Lighting segment experienced slight revenue growth. However, profitability was hampered by higher-than-expected costs and a reduction in gross profit margin. Extensive measures have been initiated to reduce costs and enhance efficiency across operations.

In an effort to deepen the value chain and foster growth, SBF acquired AMS Software & Elektronik GmbH, expanding its offerings in electronics and sensor technology which is set to fully integrate in the financial results from 2024. Despite a cautious outlook for the current year, company executives are confident that structural changes will start positively impacting financial outcomes from 2025 onwards.
