SMD3 and Waga Energy Initiate RNG Project in Southwestern France
SMD3 and Waga Energy have partnered to produce renewable natural gas (RNG) in Saint-Laurent-des-Hommes, Dordogne, France. Waga Energy will construct a purification unit employing its WAGABOX® technology to convert landfill gas into RNG. This project will directly supply around 3,000 local households with 57,000 MMBtu of RNG annually, replacing fossil natural gas and reducing CO2 emissions by 4,000 tons per year.
The landfill, capable of processing up to 75,000 tons of waste annually, currently converts biogas into electricity. Transforming it into RNG enhances energy efficiency and directly supplies renewable energy into the gas pipeline, assisting in decarbonizing industries and transport sectors. The initiative aims to propel Dordogne's energy transition, promoting clean, local energy while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Pascale Protano, SMD3 President, and Mathieu Lefebvre, CEO of Waga Energy, express commitment to supporting the energy transition through this collaboration. The project is expected to commence operations by 2027.
