Spexi Geospatial Secures $1.03 Million Contract for Wildfire Preparedness in Canada
VANCOUVER, BC / ACCESSWIRE / May 9, 2024 - Spexi Geospatial, based in Vancouver, has been awarded a $1,030,400 contract by the Government of Canada to enhance wildfire preparedness through the capture of high-resolution Earth imagery. This initiative, funded by the Innovative Solutions Canada program, aims to improve emergency responses to wildfires using ultra-detailed imagery by drone pilots across Canada.
Bill Lakeland, CEO of Spexi Geospatial, explained that recent record-breaking wildfire seasons underscore the necessity for accurate information, facilitating better decision-making in crisis scenarios. The project, tapping into the Spexi Network of global drone pilots, promises to capture high-resolution images to help identify areas at high risk for wildfires and enhance preventive measures.
The rapid progress of the initiative has already resulted in over 300,000 acres imaged, advancing toward a target of 660,000 acres. This significant imagery endeavor not only aids government agencies but also engages local drone pilots in contributing vital data, essentially involving community members in national disaster preparedness efforts and providing them with remuneration for their services.
