STMicroelectronics Strengthens Optical Interconnects for AI
STMicroelectronics, a leading semiconductor company, today unveiled new technologies to improve the performance of optical interconnects in data centers and artificial intelligence clusters. With the increasing demand for AI computing, STMicroelectronics announced significant advances in silicon photonics and BiCMOS technologies, capable of supporting 800 Gbps and 1.6 Tbps interconnects.
These innovations aim to deliver more energy-efficient pluggable optical transceivers, in partnership with key industry players. Production of these modules is expected to start in the second half of 2025. STMicroelectronics aims to become a leading supplier of optical solutions in Europe, emphasizing the importance of independence and large-scale capability for key components.
