Supreme Court of Austria Holds bet-at-home.com Internet Ltd. Liable for Subsidiary's Debts
The Supreme Court of Austria ruled that bet-at-home.com Internet Ltd. is liable for the debts of its subsidiary, bet-at-home.com Entertainment Ltd. (now in liquidation). This decision concerns a customer claim for reimbursement of gaming losses amounting to EUR 2.8 million, including interest. The plaintiff was deemed addicted to gambling and legally incapacitated during their online gambling activities.
Although bet-at-home.com Entertainment Ltd. was the contractual partner in the online gaming services, the Supreme Court assumes bet-at-home.com Internet Ltd. is liable under tort law. The company is now evaluating the impact of this ruling on their financial forecast for 2024.
Provisions amounting to EUR 2.3 million had already been recognized by bet-at-home.com Entertainment Ltd. for this case. The company is now assessing further potential claims and the overall financial implications.
