Survey Reveals Service Providers See Generative AI as Crucial Yet Face Implementation Challenges

Amdocs, a leading provider of software and services to the communications and media industry, has unveiled research conducted by Analysys Mason, highlighting communications service providers' (CSPs) attitudes towards Generative AI (GenAI). The study, "GenAI Challenges and Opportunities", discloses that 90% of CSPs believe GenAI will significantly impact their business goals. However, the adoption of GenAI is at an early stage, with only 22% having implemented GenAI solutions, and many facing substantial implementation challenges.

According to the research, CSPs expect GenAI to influence various domains including software development, data management, and network operations. They anticipate benefits like generating new revenue streams and improving employee productivity. However, integrating GenAI with existing operations is proving difficult for the majority. Challenges such as data quality, training large language models (LLMs) with telecom-specific data, and regulatory compliance were identified as the main hurdles.

The path forward involves a considerable portion of CSPs exploring the creation of their own GenAI platforms or seeking professional services for implementation. A notable strategy for overcoming these challenges includes adopting specialized, telco-focused LLM platforms that leverage the capabilities of multiple LLM providers, potentially transforming CSPs’ performance and cost efficiency.

Amdocs also introduced enhancements to its GenAI platform, amAIz, designed to facilitate CSPs' integration of GenAI into their operations, aiming at network efficiency and customer service improvement, among other advantages.
