SYNLAB Reports Solid Financial Performance for FY 2023 Amidst Challenges
SYNLAB AG, a leading provider of medical diagnostic services in Europe, has disclosed its financial outcomes for the fiscal year 2023, highlighting a robust performance despite numerous challenges. The company noted a strong underlying organic growth rate of 6.4%, surpassing mid-term organic growth targets. However, FY 2023 revenue witnessed a decline to €2.64 billion from €3.25 billion in the prior year, primarily due to the substantial reduction in COVID-19 testing revenue.
Adjusted EBITDA for the year stood at €438 million, translating into a margin of 16.6%, aligning with the company's forecasted margin range of 16-18%. Despite facing adverse effects from the discontinuation of COVID-19 capacity and an inflationary environment, SYNLAB managed to achieve these results through effective strategic measures, including the SALIX program which delivered €40 million in savings.
M&A activities played a significant part in SYNLAB's strategy, with eight acquisitions completed in 2023, totaling an EV of €90 million. Additionally, the company made significant progress in portfolio management, divesting non-core assets to streamline operations and focus on key growth areas. This proactive approach is expected to support continuous improvement in financial performance.
Looking ahead, SYNLAB is optimistic about 2024, projecting revenues around €2.7 billion and aiming for an AEBITDA margin improvement. The company will maintain its focus on bolt-on M&A strategies and portfolio management to sustain growth and enhance medical diagnostic service excellence.
