Tencent Announces CarbonX Program 2.0 Finalists to Tackle Climate Change
Tencent has revealed the 50 global finalists for its CarbonX Program 2.0, a major initiative aimed at advancing climate technologies. Hailing from 12 countries, these finalists were selected from 660 applications worldwide and will compete for RMB200 million in funding. This effort is part of Tencent's strategy to accelerate climate solutions and push for a net-zero world by 2050.
The program addresses the 'Valley of Death,' the gap hindering early-stage innovations from reaching large-scale implementation. CarbonX fosters a collaborative ecosystem of scientists, engineers, and investors to support the scaling of such innovations beyond financial assistance.
The finalists are working on four key areas: Carbon Dioxide Removal, Industrial Decarbonization, Carbon Capture and Utilization, and Long-Duration Energy Storage. A global panel will evaluate these innovations in early 2026. The announcement was made at the CarbonX Summit 2025 in Shenzhen, emphasizing the importance of inclusive deployment and multilateral collaboration in fighting climate change.
