AI and EV Investments Boost Thailand's Advanced Materials Sector
Makers of capacitors, magnets, and battery materials are investing significantly in Thailand. Since 2023, 35 advanced materials projects, totaling $690 million, have been filed with the Thailand Board of Investment. This reflects increased demand for AI, EVs, and clean energy, prompting global suppliers to enhance upstream capacity in the nation.
The projects, recorded through mid-2026, include various components for AI servers and EVs. This shift positions Thailand as a future hub for high-value materials in Southeast Asia. Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi emphasizes the strategic importance of local advanced material production for sustainable growth and reduced import dependency.
Existing production by global leaders like Murata Electronics and new ventures from companies such as Fultech Fiber Glass highlight the sector's growth. These developments strengthen Thailand's supply chains for electronics, EVs, and clean energy. The BOI continues to foster investment, aiming to make Thailand a regional hub for advanced materials.
