The automotive market closes the half-year on a mixed note

The number of newly registered passenger cars in Switzerland and Liechtenstein fell by two percent in the first half of 2024. 121,218 new cars were put into circulation, 2,534 fewer than in the same period. the previous year.

In June, registrations fell by ten percent, reaching 22,689 vehicles. However, alternative propulsion saw its market share increase to 58.2%. Demand for battery electric vehicles has decreased due to the framework conditions considered insufficient for electric mobility.

The decline in registrations in June can be attributed to the fact that this month had two fewer working days than in 2023. Despite this, auto-suisse's forecasts for 2024, counting on 260,000 new cars, remain achievable.
