The Swiss automobile market is evolving at the pace of last year

In July 2024, 18,430 new passenger cars were put into circulation for the first time in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein, a decrease of 0.9% compared to last year. Since the start of the year, 139,648 vehicles have been registered, marking a decrease of 1.9%.

Fully hybrid and semi-hybrid vehicles now dominate the market with 32.1% market share, surpassing gasoline engines (31.3%). Plug-in hybrids maintain their 8.7% market share. In contrast, electric car sales fell 5.9%, with their market share falling to 17.8%.

According to Thomas Rücker, director of auto-suisse, a market recovery is expected in September. It also calls for measures to support the growth of electric vehicles and meet CO2 targets.
