The Swiss Commercial Vehicle Market Under Pressure
The first quarter of 2025 marked a sharp decline in the Swiss commercial vehicle market, with a 17.8% drop in new registrations. This decline affected both light and heavy vehicles, with figures falling from 10,721 to 8,813 units compared to the previous year. Economic uncertainty caused by US customs policies and stricter CO2 regulations are having a significant impact on companies' investment decisions, particularly in the automotive sector.
The hard-hit motorhome sector has seen a dramatic 90% drop in new registrations. Meanwhile, electric segments have seen their market share increase, reaching 10% for electric vans. Electric trucks now account for 18.2% of new registrations in their category, benefiting from the exemption from the heavy goods vehicle tax.
