TotalEnergies acquires the West Burton B gas plant in the United Kingdom
TotalEnergies strengthens its position in the UK electricity market by acquiring West Burton Energy for £450 million. The deal, signed with EIG, includes the 1.3GW West Burton B gas station in Nottinghamshire, capable of powering 1.8 million homes.
This acquisition allows TotalEnergies to add flexible assets to its renewable energy production, thereby mitigating intermittency. The company plans to sell 50% of these assets to balance its gas-fired production capacity.
At the same time, TotalEnergies is strengthening its trading capacity in the electricity and gas markets, aiming to provide affordable and sustainable energy to its UK customers. This operation increases its global flexible electricity production capacity to 7 GW.
