U-blox Introduces Firmware-Upgradeable GNSS Chips with Energy Efficiency
u-blox has launched two new GNSS products: the UBX-M10150-KB chip and the MAX-M10N module. These represent the company's first firmware-upgradeable M10-platform hardware. By incorporating the SPG 5.30 firmware, the devices introduce the Low Energy Accurate Positioning (LEAP) mode, cutting power consumption by up to 50% without sacrificing accuracy. The technology is aimed at battery-powered devices such as trackers and wearables, using merely 8 mW in continuous tracking.
The products elevate the capabilities of the M10 family, adding features like RTCM corrections for sub-meter accuracy, data logging, and geo-fencing. They promise a future-proof advantage, offering continual enhancements via future firmware updates. This ensures an extended lifecycle for devices using these products. Additionally, AssistNow Predictive Orbits and Live Orbits are included, improving performance in challenging signal environments.
