U-blox Launches First Satellite IoT-NTN Cellular Module with Embedded GNSS
u-blox has unveiled the SARA-S528NM10, its first combined terrestrial and non-terrestrial IoT module. Powered by the UBX-S52 chipset and M10 GNSS platform, it offers low-power and concurrent positioning based on the 3GPP Rel 17 specification for global connectivity.
This new module addresses remote connectivity challenges, making it ideal for use cases like continuous asset tracking, industrial monitoring, and fleet management. The global demand for reliable IoT connectivity is growing, especially in areas lacking cellular coverage.
The SARA-S528NM10 is based on global 3GPP standards, making it interoperable with multiple satellite providers. This flexibility helps reduce dependency on proprietary hardware and lowers costs related to satellite terminals and airtime.
Stephan Zizala, u-blox CEO, highlighted that the integrated GNSS solution consumes less than 15mW in continuous tracking mode, while maintaining high RF sensitivity. This efficiency minimizes power consumption and offers reliable connectivity without interruptions.
The module supports NB-NTN bands, future-proofing its technological credentials, and is pin-compatible with other u-blox cellular modules, facilitating ease of scale without costly redesigns.
