Uniper SE Terminates Russian Gas Supply Contracts

Uniper SE has announced the termination of its Russian gas supply contracts, effectively ending its long-term relationship with the Russian state-owned company Gazprom Export. This decision follows an arbitration tribunal's ruling on June 7, which granted Uniper the right to terminate the agreements. Although gas deliveries had been minimal since June 2022 and ceased completely by the end of August 2022, the contracts remained legally binding until this decision.

The arbitration court also awarded Uniper damages exceeding €13 billion. These damages cover losses from the gas volumes that Gazprom Export failed to supply since mid-2022. Any recovered amounts are set to benefit the German federal government.
