USPTO Issues Patent to Ideal Innovations for Handheld Integrated Targeting System (HITS)
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued a patent on June 4, 2024, to Ideal Innovations, Inc. (I-3), called Handheld Integrated Targeting System (HITS). This system enhances accuracy for targeting drones and other Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), representing a significant advancement in counter-UAS technology.
Modern conflicts increasingly rely on drone technology. HITS provides a critical edge in countering drone attacks by improving precision and success rates. "The rise of drone-based warfare and its escalating threat level was the impetus behind the HITS patent," stated Bob Kocher, CEO of I-3.
HITS includes an aiming system adapted to handheld weapons, a target detection and tracking system, an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), and a fire control computer with a display system. These components enable operators to accurately intercept intended targets.
Ideal Innovations, Inc. primarily collaborates with the Department of Defense. CEO Bob Kocher, a West Point graduate with 21 years of military service, has a reputation as a rapid solution innovator from his time at DARPA.
