Veolia and Waga Energy start up a sixth biomethane production unit
Waga Energy has inaugurated a new biomethane production unit at the Granges waste recovery site in Saône-et-Loire. This project, carried out in collaboration with Veolia, marks their sixth partnership in six years.
WAGABOX® technology enables the recovery of gas from waste into biomethane, a renewable alternative to natural gas. This biomethane is injected into the distribution network, supplying more than 3,000 homes and reducing CO2 emissions by 3,300 tonnes per year.
The Granges site, which processes 130,000 tonnes of waste per year, previously used biogas to produce electricity and heat. The WAGABOX® unit replaces one of the cogeneration installations, offering higher energy efficiency.
For six years, the WAGABOX® units installed on Veolia sites have produced 235 GWh of biomethane per year, supplying 35,000 homes and avoiding 40,000 tons of CO2 per year. This strengthens energy independence and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
