Veolia has been awarded a €270 million contract to renew its management of the waste-to-energy plant in Porto, Portugal. This facility, in operation for 25 years, will transform 390,000 tons of municipal waste into 162,045 MWh of electricity each year. Ninety percent of this energy is fed into the public grid, supplying a population of approximately 150,000.

This contract highlights digitalization, energy efficiency, and decarbonization. Initiatives include a solar photovoltaic unit and a carbon capture system that could reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 90%.

Estelle Brachlianoff, CEO of Veolia, emphasizes that this project illustrates the ambition of Veolia's GreenUp plan for more local and circular energy.
