Veolia wins contract for desalination plant in Chile
Veolia has been awarded a contract to manage Chile's first desalination plant for municipal and industrial use, located in Valparaíso. Following a competitive bidding process involving six major international companies, Aguas Pacífico awarded the contract, which will initially last four years, to Veolia. This project includes the operation and maintenance of the plant, as well as a 105 km pumping system.
Desalinated water production will reach 1,000 l/s, a first for Chile. Operations will rely on the use of renewable energy and the mobilization of 60% local workforce. This initiative supports Chile's efforts to combat drought. The contract may be extended until 2040.
By reaffirming its position as world leader in desalination, Veolia is helping to guarantee water security and meet the challenges of climate change.
