Verbio Applauds Cabinet's Move on GHG Quota Surplus
Verbio SE has expressed support for the recent resolution by the Federal Cabinet to address the surplus of greenhouse gas (GHG) quotas. The amendment to the 38th Regulation on the Implementation of the Federal Emissions Protection Act will halt the carry-forward of GHG quotas for 2025 and 2026, aiming to boost demand and stabilize quota prices. These carry-forward options will be reintroduced in 2027.
The announcement followed news that 8.1 million tonnes of CO2 were carried over as surplus from 2023 to 2024. This move ensures these surpluses can only be utilized from 2027 onwards. Verbio sees this as a necessary measure against significant market surpluses. Additionally, new measures will likely be implemented by 2025 to mitigate fraudulent biodiesel activities, particularly from China.
