Viridien and TGS Launch Seismic Survey in Brazil's Barreirinhas Basin
Viridien and TGS have announced the launch of the Megabar Extension Phase I survey in the Barreirinhas Basin, Northern Brazil. This 5,300 sq km multi-client 3D seismic survey builds on Viridien’s existing Megabar coverage. TGS will handle the data acquisition, using its Ramform Tethys vessel, while Viridien will manage data imaging.
This region's geology parallels discoveries in Guyana and Suriname, hinting at rich deepwater plays. The survey aims to produce initial imaging by Q3 2026, with final data available in Q1 2027. The project is backed by industry funding and is expected to enhance exploration opportunities in the area.
Viridien's CEO, Sophie Zurquiyah, highlighted the strategic advantage of accessing this data, while TGS's CEO, Kristian Johansen, emphasized its significance in understanding Barreirinhas Basin geology. This project marks a critical step in boosting exploration in South America's promising regions.
