Voice Assistant Users Want 'Smarter' Assistants, Voices Report Finds

Today, Voices has unveiled Talking Technology, a comprehensive report delving into Americans' voice assistant usage. The findings reveal that over 80% of Americans engage with voice assistants, demonstrating their integral role in modern digital lives. Despite frequent usage, with 74% utilizing their voice assistant multiple times per week, 46% believe they are not maximizing the potential of their devices.

The report highlights the various applications of voice assistants, including retrieving information (62%), communication (45%), media playback (43%), and controlling smart home devices (37%). However, the challenge of voice assistants misunderstanding user requests remains significant, with 60% of users identifying it as a major frustration.

Further insights suggest a desire for more intelligent, human-like voice assistants. Specifically, 45% of users would prefer assistants that could deliver better responses, while 36% seek more natural interactions. The report also indicates that 38% of users believe generative AI could enhance understanding and response quality in voice assistants.

“People are yearning for voice technology that offers a more human-like, intelligent experience,” according to Tara Parachuk, Senior Manager, Brand Communications at Voices. She emphasizes the need for development in voice assistants that genuinely understand and respond to natural language effectively.
